So, the other day I had my last formal obervation ever! :) I wasn't really nervous about it, but I want to get it out of the way.
It went pretty good. The students were not that bad considering it is my most difficult class behavior wise. I picked it for my observer (the principal of the school) to attened because I wanted him to see how I delt with behavior problems.
So, he came and I taught a lesson over a TAKS passage. Now, you might think...why did you teach a TAKS passage when you were being observed? Well, because I also wanted him to see how I prepared my students for the TAKS test.
Now, when I do a TAKS passage, I try everything I can to get the students interested and motavated. Therefore, I checked out the "Elmo" (this camera devise that projects what I am writing - like a high tect overhead) and made the class period into a contest. Every time the students participated I would hand them a playing card. The goal was to try and collect as many cards as they could throughout the class period. Then at the end of the class period, I would declare winners by their "hands". I of course would switch up the the method of winnging every class period (straight, full house, three of a kind, most reds, etc.). That way they couldn't tell the students in the other class periods. This made the students really want to answers questions and stay motivated throughout the class period.
So....when I went to sign out today (I had to leave early to take Avery to the doctor) I saw Mr. Hull in the office. He stopped me just to tell me that he really enjoyed sitting in my class and that it was a wonderful lesson. He went on to say that "it was one of the best lessons he has seen in 30 years."
I just had to share his comment with everyone. He just made my day! :)

That is such a fun idea! I think you were smart for having your observation during that class and it obviously paid off!
Awesome job! Sounds like you are really making learning fun, even when it's not so much fun(let's face it, it's not always)! Compliments like that will always make you feel great no matter how long you've been teaching...especially when they are well deserved! Way to go!
