Falling on Hard Times

Avery has been sick for the past few weeks. It all started with an ear infection. She was put on an antibiotic for 10 days and then went back for her follow-up visit. At that time, she still had the ear infection, (it had gotten a little better) coughing and had a very runny nose.

The doctor told us to just let it just is course and sent us home with another antibiotic for her ear infection. This past Saturday she wasn't getting any better, just worse. We decided to take her BACK to the doctor for a third time.

This doctor was actually a new one, since ours was not on call this Saturday. She told us that normally they like for the babies to let the cold run its course in order to build their immune systems, but that there was a fine ling in doing so and letting it go too far. We were at the point where Avery wasn't getting enough oxygen and they had to intervene.

We were sent to the hospital to do some chest x-rays and lab work. Everything came back okay (she had a little RSV show up on the x-ray but not enough to call it positive....thank God!) and the lab work we should find out tomorrow. The doctor wasn't too concerned about it though.

The doctor also put Avery on breathing treatments four times a day. Sometimes she loves this and other times we have to fight her. After a couple of treatments, she got the hang of it and started to hold the mask herself. She is such a big girl!!!

Now, almost a week later...she is doing MUCH better. Last weekend she wouldn't eat even an ounce of formula, but now she is back to chugging it down and loving solids again. Life is good!

We have so much to be thankful for. Even times like now, we continue to thank the Lord for everything he has given us! He IS good!
