Always Remember

On this day 10 years ago, the Aggie family lost 12 members to the Aggie Bonfire collapse. Even though I was only a freshman in high school and had not yet started my A&M experience, I am still saddened by the tragic event.

This morning I watch the parents of the 12 fallen Aggies speak about their loved one. I started crying when they expressed how much they value Texas A&M even after they experienced the death of a son or daughter. One father talked about how strong the Aggie Spirit was and how much he appreciated the Aggie family keeping their word of never forgetting his son.

I know to some people Texas A&M is just another university, but to me it isn't…it is a way of life. It is the place where I was taught leadership, commitment, value of friendship, responsibility, loyalty, and so much more.

As I am sitting here writing this, it is hard for me to find the words to describe exactly what being an Aggie is all about. Like the saying goes, “on the outside looking in you can’t understand it, and on the inside looking out you can’t explain it.”

To all my fellow Aggies, please take this time to remember those 12 who lost their lives doing what they loved. Don’t let their lives be forgotten, but always respected.
