One unique thing our church does is bless each newborn child with a cradle cross soon after they are born. I had never heard of this before, and didn't know what to expect when the church called us last week and said they would be giving Avery's her this weekend.
Come to found out, it is a Dutch tradition where they placed cradle crosses over the beds of their infant children. It is supposed to symbolize the Christian faith, and by placing it over their bed they hoped that it would become a part of the child's consciousness.
The wooden cross has Matthew 19:14 engraved into the cross. The scripture reads, "Jesus said 'Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.'"
This is extremely special to us now. It will soon be placed over her crib so Jesus can always watch over her.
