Rudders HORRIBLE Recovery

Rudder came home today from the hospital after staying overnight. His surgery was performed yesterday morning, but we were not able to get him until today at 8:30am. The surgery went fine, and he did very well. The operation he had was called a TPLO Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy. In normal people's terms what they did was shave off part of his bone to make it flat. Then they inserted a plate with 6 screws to strenghthen the joint. This makes it almost as strong as it was before and reduces the chance he will blow his other ACL.

Here is a pretty good video from YouTube that explains the operation very well.

This has been a very sad day in the Jameson Household with this poor guy.

Anyone that is reading this Blog is probably close enough to us to have had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful K-9 in person. Only if you have seen him in person once you KNOW that these expressions you are about to see have NEVER been worn on his face. I have been VERY close to this puppy for all of his 4 1/2 years and have never seen him sooo sad. The worst part of this whole thing is that he has to stay locked up in our room imobilized for 4 freaking weeks minimum. How do you keep this guy down that long??

His ears are down, he crys and whines constantly and the horrible part is that every once in a while he will yelp out in pain. We are not allowed to have him anywhere in the house but the grass to potty, and on the carpet inside. If he walks on the wood floors there is a chance that he may slip and come down on his injury causing major damage.

Needless to say over the next few weeks I will be spending a lot of time belly down on my bedroom floor paying some much needed attention to him and giving about all the TLC I can spare until he gets to feeling better.

I know he will be better in the end, but I have to say..... this sucks......

We put his kennel by the door so he can still see outside. It seems to help a little bit. We are going to take him outside for a while and lay him on a blanket tomorrow so he can just get some fresh air.
